Welcome to Kestrel Group

Kestrel Group is a consulting practice specialising in risk and emergency management. We operate from offices in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, and are involved in projects throughout New Zealand and in the Pacific.

Some of Kestrel's current projects include:

  • Tunnel Emergency Management Planning - A new project for the New Zealand Transport Agency to develop risk profiles, emergency response plan frameworks and exercise plans for multi-agency emergencies in major road tunnels is being led by Kristin Hoskin.
  • Pandemic Response - Sandy Pedersen has been assisting Wellington Regional Public Health and the Ministry of Health with their response to AH1N1, including induction training for people assisting in Emergency Operations Centres and the rapid development of additional response procedures specific to this event.
  • Building Safety Evaluation - The development of new post-disaster building safety evaluation procedures and training seminars for territorial authorities has been spearheaded by Dave Brunsdon for the NZ Society of Earthquake Engineering and the Department of Building and Housing. Understanding these arrangements is a key aspect of effective Business Continuity Planning for all agencies, particularly for operators of critical facilities.
  • Consequences of Rupture of the Wellington Fault - A new project to take a fresh look at the range of disruptions resulting from a rupture of the Wellington Fault is being led by Dave Brunsdon for the Wellington Lifelines Group, in conjunction with Greater Wellington Water and GNS Science. This project is being conducted in several stages through 2009 and 2010, and will look at the wider community and organisational implications of this event.

Kestrel Group is also involved in other ongoing projects such as the national co-ordination of Lifelines Engineering, and managing the risk platform for the Centre for Advanced Engineering.

We are involved in public good funded research projects Resilient Communities (with GNS Science) and Resilient Organisations (with the Universities of Canterbury and Auckland). Additionally, we are actively involved in a number of local, national, and global volunteer activities.
